Aims and background

The Canberra Region Languages Forum aims to facilitate discussion among the many stakeholders in Canberra and the surrounding region who are interested and/or involved in promoting languages and language learning. It works closely with other organisations with similar goals, in particular the ACT Bilingual Education Alliance (ACTBEA).

The forum provides a platform for the sharing of information and ideas. The goal is to build on local resources and strengths to improve languages education in the ACT region and to better acknowledge and value our multilingual society.

Members of the forum include educators and teachers from early childhood to tertiary level, parents, students, community members, embassy personnel, local politicians, ethnic and community broadcasters, and service providers, particularly those working with Canberra residents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and new arrivals and refugees.

Anyone with an interest in promoting, teaching or learning languages, including English, is welcome to join the forum discussion.

If you would like to be added to the languages forum email list to receive occasional updates and information about forum and ACTBEA activities and other language-related news please email languagesact@gmail.com

The Forum acknowledges the ongoing support of the  Canberra Multicultural Community Forum Inc (CMCF) and the Australian National University. The forum is also grateful to the University of Canberra for hosting its initial meeting in 2007.
